PURPOSE

Start looking at next generation of coin finder.

The goal is to replace our traditional specialty coin finders, which are/should be obsolete with COVID, to be replaced with a QR code bringing you to the type of online coin finding content we saw on batteries plus.

SUMMARY

Execute quickly: Let’s beat Energizer to this.

The Business

Duracell has the mantra of "Be Different, Better, and Worth Paying More For.” Being at the forefront of technology shifts in the battery category falls neatly into the mantra above and showcases investment to its retailers.

Make the unit interactive without the need to be touched.

THE CHALLENGE

STRUGGLES OF SHOPPERS FINDING THE CORRECT COIN BATTERY

UX BEST PRACTICES

The coin category is growing, but the tool that helps shoppers select the right one is stuck in the past. How do we help guide it into the modern world?

The coin category is growing, but the tool that helps shoppers select the right one is stuck in the past. How do we help guide it into the modern world?

  • Not knowing what size battery they need. Many devices use different types of batteries, and it can be difficult to know which size battery is needed without the device in hand.

  • Not being able to find the correct coin battery finder. Coin battery finders are often located in different areas of the store, and it can be time-consuming to find the one that you need.

  • Having to touch dirty or germ-ridden coin battery finders. Many coin battery finders are located in areas where people are handling coins, which can make them dirty or germ-ridden.

  • Make it clear what size battery is needed. The size of the battery should be clearly labeled on the coin battery finder, or there should be a way for shoppers to easily identify the size they need.

  • Place coin battery finder in a central location for shopper. Coin battery finders should be placed in a central location in the store, so that shoppers can easily find them.

  • Use touch-less coin battery finders. Touch-less coin battery finders are a great way to reduce the spread of germs.

Finding the correct coin battery finder can be a struggle for shoppers. By following these best practices, retailers can make it easier for shoppers to find the coin battery finder they need and reduce the spread of germs.

Here are some additional bullet points about the struggles of shoppers having to find the correct coin battery finder:

  • Shoppers may not know what type of battery their device uses.

  • Shoppers may not be able to remember the size of the battery their device uses.

  • Shoppers may not be able to find the coin battery finder that they need.

  • Coin battery finders may be dirty or germ-ridden.

  • Shoppers may not have the time or patience to find the correct coin battery finder.

Why Isn’t The Current
Tool Working

Shoppers will bring both devices and the coin batteries to shelf when needing to replace the coin battery

Shoppers are confused on how to use the physical tool

Shoppers don't want to interact with the physical tool due to sanitary reasons

Shoppers aren't familiar with the types of coin batteries

They believe that the tool is limited to batteries from brand on the tool

Who We Are Talking To?

JIM

Challenge:

Jim is frustrated with the traditional coin finders that are available in stores. These coin finders are often dirty and germ-ridden, and they require him to touch them in order to use them. He also finds it difficult to use coin finders when he is shopping with his children.

Goal:

Jim needs a touch-less coin finder that is easy to use and that is effective at finding coins. He also wants a coin finder that is portable and that he can easily take with him when he is shopping with his children.

Pain points:

  • Traditional coin finders are often dirty and germ-ridden.

  • Traditional coin finders require users to touch them, which can be inconvenient, especially when shopping with children.

  • Traditional coin finders are not always effective at finding coins.

Opportunity:

The opportunity for Duracell is to capitalize on the growing trend of touch-less solutions. As consumers become more concerned about the spread of germs, they are looking for ways to reduce their contact with surfaces. A touch-less coin finder would be a welcome solution for these consumers.

Strategy:

Duracell can develop a touch-less coin finder that uses QR codes to make the coin finder interactive and to provide users with access to online coin finding content. The coin finder would be portable and easy to use, and it would be effective at finding coins.

Benefits:

The touch-less coin finder would be more sanitary and convenient for users. It would also showcase Duracell's commitment to innovation and its leadership in the battery category.

Microsite

A microsite is a standalone website that is created for a specific purpose. In this case, the microsite could be used to provide information about Duracell batteries, including the different types of batteries that Duracell offers, the sizes of the batteries, and where to find them in stores.

The microsite could also include a coin battery finder that would allow shoppers to identify the correct battery for their device.

A chatbot is a computer program that simulates conversation with human users. In this case, the chatbot could be used to answer questions about Duracell batteries, including the different types of batteries that Duracell offers, the sizes of the batteries, and where to find them in stores. The chatbot could also be used to help shoppers find the correct coin battery for their device.

The chatbot could also be used to help shoppers find the correct coin battery for their device.

Conclusion

Both the microsite and chatbot solutions have their own advantages and disadvantages. The microsite is a more static solution, but it can be more comprehensive and easier to navigate. The chatbot is a more dynamic solution, but it can be more difficult to create and maintain.

The best solution for Duracell will depend on the specific needs of the company. If Duracell wants to provide a comprehensive resource for shoppers, then the microsite is a good option. If Duracell wants to provide a more personalized experience for shoppers, then the chatbot is a good option.
